Mortdale railway station is located on the CityRail Illawarra line in the southern Sydney suburb of Mortdale. It serves a primarily residential area and nearby commercial and light industrial area. The station opened in 1897 and moved to its present location in 1922. [1] It consists of an island platform with entry via an overpass at the southern end. Two sets of points at the northern end of the station allow trains to terminate on either platform and to access the Mortdale maintenance depot at the southern end of the station. The tracks through Mortdale are signalled for bi-directional operation but this is only used in emergency settings.
